PRAYERS FOR THE CONGREGATION

*CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader:    Jesus sees those who have gathered and he teaches them.

People:   We are surprised by his teachings; they are not what our culture believes; they are not  what we teach our children; they are not the ways we live.

Leader:     No, Jesus intends to show us a new way to live in a harsh world.

People:  The suffering, the powerless, the rejected are blessed.

Leader:     The prophet Micah tells us what the Lord expects of us: to do justice, love kindness and to walk humbly with our God.

*HYMN   ÒBlest Are TheyÓ (Matthew 5:3-12)   vs. 3,4,5  (Insert)

THE INVITATION

Gathered around our tables, we sit with family and friends to participate in the meal Jesus asked us to eat in remembrance of him. The servers will come to the tables inviting you to pass the elements to the others seated at your table. When your table mates have all received the elements, you are invited as a family to eat and drink.

Pastor:  Jesus said: I am the bread of life. You who come to me, shall not hunger;  you who believe in me shall never thirst.

People: In company with all who hunger for spiritual food, we come to this table to know the risen Christ in the sharing of the life-giving bread.

PRAYER OF OUR  SAVIOR

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom

come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day

our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our

debtors.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.

  Amen.

SHARING THE ELEMENTS

The United Church of Christ practices open communion. People of all ages who confess Jesus Christ as Savior are welcome. Today we will receive the elements around the table. The Deacons/nesses will serve bread; the gluten-free wafers will be served on request. Light colored glasses contain juice and dark glasses contain wine.

*PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING2

Almighty God, we give you thanks for the gift of our SaviorÕs presence in the simplicity and splendor of this holy meal. As we were united by you around the tables, unite us as one with all who are nourished by ChristÕs Word. May we faithfully proclaim the good news of your love and may our congregation bring hope to an uncertain world; through Jesus Christ our Redeemer. Amen.
