PRAYERS OF THE CONGREGATION

What a friend we have in Jesus

all our sins and griefs to bear
What a privilege to carry

everything to God in prayer
O what peace we often forfeit

O what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer

CALL TO WORSHIP

We Confess Our Sin, Seeking GodÕs Forgiveness

PRAYER OF CONFESSION

Gracious God, we are in need of your grace. While we know what we are to do, we fail to do the good Jesus has shown us to do; and the evil we ought not to do, we do. The ways of the world are easy to follow. For a time, we keep the Commandments, but then again, we fall into the old patterns of our sin. Forgive us; help us to turn again to Jesus, to follow his example, and to live in obedience to you.

SILENT PRAYER OF CONFESSION

ASSURANCE OF GODÕS LOVE AND FORGIVENESS

God is rich in mercy. Though we have sinned, through the life, death, resurrection and love of Jesus we have been restored to life. This is GodÕs gift. Receive the gift of your salvation; listen for the guidance of the Holy Spirit so that once again you might be obedient to God and do good things.

PASSING THE PEACE

We need one another. Together we are to remind one another what is good, true and right for the followers of Jesus. In living in the ways of Jesus we will find peace. May we support one another so GodÕs peace is in us and shared through us in the world. The peace of Christ be with you. And also with you.

(All are invited to greet others with handshakes or hugs while saying to them "The peace of Christ be with you" and responding "and also with you.")

We Respond To GodÕs Faithfulness

*THE APOSTLEÕS CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth:

And in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary; suffered under Pontius Pilate: was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit; the one holy universal Christian Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.

HYMN           ÒSoftly and Tenderly                  (pg. 8 bulletin)

PASTORAL PRAYER

THE PRAYER OF OUR SAVIOR

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.   Amen.
