1 Psalm 46
ÒA Mighty Fortress Is Our GodÓ
REFRAIN: The Mighty LORD is with us,
the God of Jacob is our fortress:
A mighty fortress is our God.
A Mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing;
Our helper he amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing.
For still our ancient foe Doth seek to work us woe;
His craft and power are great, and armed with cruel hate, On earth is not His equal.
Psalm
46:1-3
REFRAIN: The Mighty LORD is with us,
the God of Jacob is our fortress:
A mighty fortress is our God.
Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing, Were not the right man on our side,
the man of GodÕs own choosing, Doth ask who that might be? Christ Jesus, it is He; Lord Sabaoth His name. From age to age the same. And He must win the battle.
Psalm
46:4-7
REFRAIN: The Mighty LORD is with us,
the God of Jacob is our fortress:
A mighty fortress is our God.
And though this world with devils
filled, Should threaten to undo us,
We will not fear for God has willed His truth to triumph through us. The prince
of darkness grim,
We tremble not for him; His rage we can endure,
For lo, his doom is sure; One little word shall fell him.
Psalm
46:8-9
REFRAIN: The Mighty LORD is with us,
the God of Jacob is our fortress:
A mighty fortress is our God.
That word above all earthly powers, No thanks to them, abideth; The Spirit and the gifts are ours Through Him who with us sideth. Let goods and kindred go,
This mortal life also; The body they may kill;
GodÕs truth abideth still, His Kingdom is forever.
Psalm
46:10
REFRAIN: The Mighty LORD is with us,
the God of Jacob is our fortress:
A mighty fortress is our God
*GATHERING PRAYER Attributed to Martin Luther
Eternal God, you call us
to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths yet untrodden, through
perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with courage, not knowing where we go,
but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us, In Christ
Jesus our Lord. Amen.
*PASSING THE PEACE
GodÕs peace is among us even in
the storms of life.
We receive GodÕs peace when we realize Christ is with us.
The peace of God in Christ Jesus our Lord be with you
And also with you.
(All are invited to greet others with
handshakes or hugs while saying to them ÒThe
peace of Christ be with youÓ and responding, Òand also with you.Ó

PRAYER OF OUR SAVIOR
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be
Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and
forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from
evil. For Thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

In Christ there is no East or West, in

In Christ shall true hearts everywhere
their high communion find; GodÕs service is the golden cord close binding humankind.
In
Christ now meet both East and West,
