On July 28, our church will be hosting screenwriter and humorist, Jonathan Richard Cring and musician and conductor Janet Clazzy for a performance at 7:00 p.m.; an evening of music and monologue, including readings from Mr. Cring’s book Digging for Gold (in the rule) with original musical tunes performed by Ms. Clazzy on the oboe and WX-5 Wind Machine, and insights on the growing market for movies and art with purpose and spirit. Mr. Cring is the author of eleven books, including I’M. . .the legend of the son of man, 20 Other Reasons to Kiss a Frog, Jesonian, is a winner of a Billboard Music Award, and recent recipient of the Best Screenplay Award at the Top Ten Films in America festival. and Living a Legendary Life. "Forty-nine minutes is all we have to give you music, humor, dialogue and some fresh insights about bringing creativity into our practical lives," Mr. Cring shares from his home in Hendersonville, Tennessee. "The presentation is a delicate and delicious blending of spirit and humor that produces the wonderful by-product of good cheer." Ms. Clazzy has played oboe in orchestras for thirty years from coast to coast, including San Jose, Chicago, Shreveport and Houston. "I have this fabulous instrument called the WX-5 Wind Machine which gives me 250 sounds," she says. "When you add some of the beautiful music and inspiring melodies, it just lends itself to an occasion to enrich the heart and exalt the spirit." She is also the first female conductor in the state of Tennessee. A free-will offering will be taken up after the service and copies of books, CDs and DVDs of the movies will be available for purchase.

WE CELEBRATE CALVIN
On July 10, 1509 John Calvin, one of the most prominent leaders of the sixteenth century Protestant Reformation, was born. He served as pastor in the city of Geneva, Switzerland during the middle of that century and from there influenced religious movements throughout Europe and eventually the world. The founders of churches which formed the United Church of Christ , including the Pilgrims and Puritans, were Calvinists. We will celebrate the 500th anniversary of Calvin’s birth during 9:00 a.m. worship on July 12 utilizing a style of worship he introduced into Geneva, which included the singing of psalms. The sermon, entitled "Calvin Who?" will tell something about the man and his importance for our church and world. Who knows? Maybe we’ll even have a birthday cake?
Devotions Available
You can access a series of devotional messages at i.ucc.org. These devotions are written by various UCC pastors and lay people and help us connect to God each day.
- For those of us who give by automatic deductions from our bank, send our gift through our bank, write a monthly check, or designate a yearly contribution of stocks, there is a way to show our giving commitment each week through a “Giving Card.” These are placed in the pews in either the card rack or in back of the communion cup rack. You are invited to take one and place it in the offering plate during the morning offering.
- The card is red on one side and white on the other.

A portion of our Sunday worship is broadcast each Sunday at 11:00 a.m. on WCCN, 1370 AM on the dial. If you would like to sponsor a broadacast please contact the church office at 743-2147.

Pictures from the Holy Land
Check out the Israel Blog for a series of collages from Pastor Jim's month-long stay in Israel as a partcipant in a seminar for pastors at the Tantur Ecumenical Institute. Tantur lies just north of the wall separating Palestinian Bethlehem and Israeli Jerusalem. From the heights of Tantur one may gaze upon this wall and note the division and strife in this so called "Holy Land."
